Verified ownerDon’t mistake me, these are excellent, solid rails. But quality control needs to step up their game. One end was a rough mill end, the edges were splintered, and there was a small dent on one from being dropped. I have pics if you would like them. It is still workable so that’s what I will do….

No. Bar Rail Molding should be cut, fit, and installed before finishing. Sand the Bar Rail Molding first with 100 Grit, moving up to 180 Grit after it has been installed, and before stain and top coat finish is applied.

While we do cut our mouldings for shipping, we intentionally cut one end only due to damage which may occur between our shop and our customer’s location. We realize our mouldings (including the rough end) will need to be cut to size by our customer, and we do not include this portion in the billable length. You mentioned splintered edges, so you may be familiar with the damage which can occur during handling. Our quality control is focused on ensuring the full billable length of the moulding is usable, any additional length (which may include rough ends) is free of charge.
The small dent you mentioned likely occurred during transit. Although we carefully wrap each shipment for protection, minor damage may sometimes occur. If a moulding is unusable due to damage, please report your damage with a picture to [email protected]. We will work with you to ensure you receive the quality customers have come to expect from Blumer & Stanton since 1946.
